Awakening the Momo Within Me

Lately, I have often found myself wondering about something.

We live in a time when everyone seems to have a computer at their fingertips. The world is moving faster, and life is becoming more convenient. We no longer have to read or search for things ourselves. AI summarizes information and even writes for us. These days, even fish come ready-cooked. Things that save us time and effort continue to multiply.

And yet, something feels strange.

Why are we still so busy? Even as we save so much time, why is it still so difficult to find time for ourselves?

What are we saving all this time for? What do we intend to do with the time we save?

I had been carrying these questions somewhere in the back of my mind when, one day, my body suddenly put on the brakes. Only then did I stop.

And I found myself facing questions far more fundamental than what I should do next.

How well do I really know myself?

Have I been living at the center of my own life?

Perhaps, for so long, I have been listening to the world around me that I have failed to hear the quiet voice rising from within.

There have always been things to do, responsibilities to fulfill, and goals to pursue. I have spent my life thinking about what comes next—learning and teaching, planning and acting, trying to fill each day with meaning.

That does not mean the life I have lived was wrong. The person I am today has been shaped by all those years.

Still, how much of me was truly present in all that time?

What do I really want? What is wearing me down? What do I need right now? How often have I listened to the quiet voice within me, the one that has been trying to tell me something?

Yesterday, I found myself in tears during meditation.

I cannot say exactly why I cried so much. Was it the exhaustion that had accumulated over the years? Fear? Or perhaps the sadness of having neglected myself for far too long?

Maybe it was all of these things.

When the Body Tells Us to Stop

An unexpected experience of sudden hearing loss made me think about the time that lies ahead. There are still so many things I want to do. My desire to work actively and engage with the world has not diminished. And yet, uncertainty has crept in. I no longer know whether I will be able to live as I once did.

Perhaps what I need now is not to hurry back into the race, but to pause for a while and turn my attention inward.

I think I have known myself less than I imagined. Perhaps I have spent so much time moving forward that I have failed to hear what is stirring within me—what I truly want and what I fear.

I want to understand myself instead of pushing myself harder. I want to stay beside myself in moments of anxiety rather than rush myself toward an answer. Instead of trying to figure everything out, I want to embrace myself just as I am.

Even when recovery cannot be guaranteed, I want to trust myself. Even when I cannot be certain that I will return to the life I hope for, I do not want to abandon the person I am today.

Perhaps this is what I need to give myself right now.

### Awakening the Momo Within Me

Recently, I began reading *Momo* by Michael Ende.

Momo is not a character who teaches us how to save time or become more efficient. Rather, she listens quietly to people and helps them reconnect with themselves.

As I read, a thought suddenly came to me.

Could there be a Momo living within me, too?

A part of me that listens to my own stories as attentively as I listen to others.

A part that asks how I am feeling today before asking what I have accomplished.

A part that patiently waits for me to hear my own voice again, a voice I may have lost while trying to keep up with the pace of the world.

Perhaps, in following the world's clock, I have forgotten the time that belongs to me.

Now, I want to awaken the Momo within me.

Not so that I can work harder, but so that I can live without losing myself.

Not so that I can rush into something new, but so that I can learn to live alongside the person I am today.

I do not yet know how the days ahead will unfold.

I do not know how much my body will recover or what form my work will take when I return to it.

But I do not need to have all the answers right now.

Today, I want to read a book, close my eyes for a moment, and listen to the quiet voice within me.

If I feel sad, I will let myself be sad. If I feel anxious, I will allow the anxiety to be there. And if I do not feel like doing anything at all, I will let myself be that way, too.

Time that does not need to be saved.

Time in which I do not have to prove anything.

Time in which it is enough simply to be myself.

Perhaps the time I have lost is not somewhere in the past, waiting to be found.

Perhaps it is the time I can begin again, right here and now—the time I spend with the self I have been too busy to meet.

Now, I want to awaken the Momo within me.

And when that little voice begins to speak, this time, I want to stop rushing past it.

I want to sit quietly and listen.

To slow down, to be gentle with myself, and to simply be.
To slow down, to be gentle with myself, and to simply be.
